I have committed over 20 years of my professional career to education worldwide. Initially, as a young teacher, I taught in Profound and Multiple Learning Disability schools, a school for the Deaf, a school for the visually impaired, and in mainstream settings, striving to absorb knowledge from my colleagues and the children I worked with.
Subsequently, I transitioned to collaborating on behavioural programmes and working as a consultant in a range of settings, specialising in special and inclusive education and Social, Emotional and Mental Health.
I focus on implementing the principles of neurodiversity and Social Communication, Emotional Regulation, and Transactional Supports (SCERTS) into practice.
Throughout this journey, I have come to understand that the full success of our children is not achievable without integrating home, education, work settings, and the community. As a result, I engage with and train schools, families in their homes, working with grandparents, children, and adults. I work within communities, collaborating with and advising teachers, and therapists.
I develop differentiated curriculums, behaviour support plans and deliver neurodiversity training for all willing to learn, including train station staff, medical practices, the police and even baristas!
I am deeply passionate about promoting responsible inclusion in all aspects of life, recognising that actively accepting neurodiversity and disability is essential for living a fulfilling life. After all, it is inevitable that at some point in our lives, we may experience some form of disability whether it be from injury, illness or simply age.
In my professional practice, I embrace everyone and foster collaborative efforts to ensure that the programmes developed are centred around the individual/group, and are enjoyable, meaningful, and practical.
My specialist knowledge and experience include but are not limited to Autism, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Selective Mutism and most recently Demand Avoidance and OCD. I am based in Kent and currently also work in Surrey and Greater London. I consultate and collaborate with teams in Boston, Australia, Mauritius, and in South Africa.
My research includes:
-Autistic Adults’ Reflections on childhood diagnosis/ identity discussions and their recommendations for non-autistic parents of autistic children.
-ADHD Adults’ Reflections on childhood diagnosis/ identity discussions and their recommendations for non-ADHD parents of autistic children.
